T stands for - taking in the sights...

We had an interesting train journey to Vienna - the scenery changed quite a bit along the way.
One of the most amazing sights was this statue high up on a hill at Tatabanya in Hungary (it is a apparently the largest bird statue in Eastern Europe)
I spent some of the journey filling in my travel journal.
We were impressed by the windfarms that stretched across the countryside. Many people in the UK object to them but when you think of the free electric power these places generate it makes sense to me.
This church was just around the corner from our hotel. We have stayed in the same hotel before but had only ever walked in one direction so hadn't seen this before.

My feet had suffered a set back - as they were so sore from the walk the previous day - I bought some shortie socks to wear with my shoes  for the journey and I rubbed up a huge series of blisters on my ankle....
I have deliberately made this shocking pic small !
...that really hurt!
We didn't walk far the first afternoon - just far enough to buy a travel pass and to get a coffee and then later a meal.
The next day was Sunday and the Museum Quarter was a short walk away. When we went to buy tickets for the two places we decided to visit we found that one of them had free entry!
I loved the decorative walls and ceilings at the entrance to the Museum quarter.
I was keen to see the Gustav Klimt exhibition.

One of the things that fascinated me most was seeing examples of his writing!
We stopped at the museum cafe for a drink and shared some cake. Hubby had a mango lassi and I had cappuccino!
The next part of our visit here was to the Egon Schiele exhibition.I did not know of Schiele and I found some of his art to be quite wonderful and some very disturbing.

Hubby headed out pretty quickly while I continued for a little longer.
I came out to find I had missed a fashion parade (It was Fashion Week in Vienna)
We headed to a cafe across the square for lunch and although I have already added our mid morning drinks I will join Bleubeard and Elizabeth for T Stands For Tuesday

Hubby had a latte while I had diet cola - I opted for a delicious veggie burger and hubby had the difficult task of an assemble your own sausage sandwich!
The decor was interesting

We headed for the MUMOK (Modern Art Museum), Hubby reluctant at this point. There was a brilliant band playing on the steps.

When we got inside hubby found that he would have to leave his bag and the queue was huge so he went off and I headed inside.I know he was pleased to escape!!!

I was quite disappointed by the exhibits - I think I have been spoilt by Tate Modern and the Pompidou. I was pleased it was a free visit!

Bad photo - I think I was in shock!
I did like this though..
...and this
The best things about this museum were the views from the windows

Little did I know - hubby was exploring these places from the ground...but that's for next time, as he took me to see what he had found!

I do hope I haven't kept you here too long!

Thanks for looking, Chris

Vienna is a beautiful place and you packed a lot into your time there. I see what you mean about the modern art! Sorry about the blisters, they must have been very painful. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

Ouch! Those blisters!
You got so much to see in Vienna. I can imagine those super modern art exhibit wasn't that interesting. The same happened to me in London some years ago in one of the free to see exhibits. There was a big mountain of brown expanding foam in one of the rooms.....

Your hubby had a pair of "Frankfurter" in this Kaffeehaus (in Germany they call those sausages "Wiener", it's a bit confusing - but it's a sin to put this hot sausage in the "Semmel"(bread roll) ...oh oh..
He just made a hot dog...inexcusable...lol!

Big hugs and happy T-Day wishes!

What another fantastic journey you have had -except for the nasty, nasty blisters-ouch!It all looks so beautiful and being a fan of such ornate and old architecture I would love Vienna too. Love the photo of you doing some art journaling whilst enjoying the scenery, and of course the food and drink look delicious:) Happy T day!

Ouch I hope those blisters healed okay, they must have been so painful.
Thank you for sharing these wonderful photos of your trip, the modern art wasn't something I would have liked either.
Happy T day wishes Chris.

I love that huge bird statue. How striking! That church is oh so gorgeous, and all the museums had a lot to offer. I've never seen a Klimt in person that I recall and certainly not an entire exhibition. The band on the steps would've been a delightful surprise :) I'll be looking forward to your next report :)

Happy T Tuesday

I love your travel photos very much-we don't travel at all so I love seeing these posts.
Loved the large bird, and you visited some really museums and art-enjoyed those. Your food sounds good as does your Hubs mango drink
thanks for sharing Happy T

It was fun to visit these exhibits with you. I bet the Klimt pieces were wonderful to see. I don't know Schiele at all either. Now at least I know a little bit. I think your husband was smart not to hang around the modern art museum, and I can't wait to see what he found. Happy T day. Hugs-Erika

Wow, you certainly saw some gorgeous art while visiting Vienna! I love Klimt! That must have been amazing. Sorry to hear about your blister. That looks so uncomfortable. I always seem to get them if my socks aren't high enough. Thank you for sharing your fabulous photos.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate

What a journey. So cool you were able to work on your travel journal while riding in the train. I sometimes get motion sick if I read in a moving vehicle. Looks like lots of things to see from the train window. All the museums were wonderful, even better with free admission. I enjoyed seeing the example of Klimt's writing. Very expressive. i had to laugh at the produce boxes being an art installation. Each to his own I suppose. Hope you're ankle has healed. Happy T Day

Thank you for taking me with you on a (for me virtual) journey. Very interesting.
Oh dear those blisters! Ouch! Poor you... At least with armchair travel I don't get blisters.
I loved to see you working on your journal on the train. Yes, That bird sculpture is fabulous.
I am a fan of Klimmt and in my previous house had large framed posters over the settee. I also like Schiele, which I always say in one breath with Klimmt, although they are totally different. Schiele does some pretty erotic/pornografic stuff.
Interesting to see the museums. For me just experiencing the band on the steps would be a highlight. Pity you missed the fashion parade. Modern art doesn't do it for me (That's why we didn't go inside the Guggenheim museum when we were there recently) I would be like your hubby, schiving off.
I was amazed by Klimt's handwriting. Typical artist. Expressive.
The ceiling of the cafe is beautiful. Was that in the museum? Your hubby will have been taken for an American, putting his sausage in his bread roll like a hot dog, lol But it all looks delicious.
I'm looking forward to seeing what else you have seen in Vienna.
Hugs,
Lisca

Although I’m still not well, I apologize for taking so long to visit. I am just now making it out of bed and hope both you and T understand why I'm late. I thought I was in pain. I can't believe that blister. YES, I enlarged it, dear.

At first, I didn't realize that bird was a statue. It was humongous. Gorgeous, too.

That first museum was fabulous. I loved the Klimt paintings. His writing was atrocious. I thought MINE was bad.

T looks happy to be away from the museum at the point where he had the lassi (whatever that is).

I really enjoyed the Schiele exhibition. His art reminded me of another artist, but right now my brain is too muddled to remember who. I bet T enjoyed the fashion parade better than the art in the museum.

LOVED the photo of T assembling his sausage sandwich, but I have to go with you on the veggie burger. I'll stick with coffee, though.

Had to laugh at the next art museum. There's modern art and there's MODERN art. I laughed at the boxes, but Warhol made a fortune off his Kellogg's boxes that were placed on the floor of the art museum in Los Angeles, CA. I also liked the pieces you liked. Got a kick out of the views from the windows being the best part of the trip. Free is sometimes good, sometimes NOT.

Thanks for sharing the museums, the train ride, the bird sculpture, and both times you shared drinks for T on Tuesday. Again, so sorry I'm late visiting, dear friend.
