Albi cathedral

I have more photos for you - this time of our visit to Albi Cathedral - there will be more about Albi on Tuesday but for now I think there is more than enough for this post,
This was the view we had from our hotel room.
Albi Cathedral is built of red brick as the local stone was not suitable for building.

Apart from the fabulous entrance, the outside is not very ornate, but inside….
 ….well as you can see….
The cathedral has chapels all around the sides.

The next two photos are of the Final Judgement done by Flemish painters

We went behind the Rood Screen into the choir - this is where I just sat for a long time to take it all in, so many beautiful carvings, statues and paintings.

My last view from Albi Cathedral as it was on our visit - this was by the door on our way out.
I have so many more photos!

Thanks for looking, Chris

what a beautiful cathedral! You so wouldn't expect that from the outside. No wonder you just had to sit. I love the sense of peace you feel inside somewhere like that; even if it is full of people.

Beautiful photos. I visited Albi in 1962 and stayed with a pen-friend there, thanks for the nice memories. Hugs, Valerie

The overall view of Albi Cathedral is quite impressive, even if it isn't necessarily ornate. The Cathedral looks HUGE from a distance and I'm sure it's overwhelming once you were inside.

Some of those alcoves were truly impressive. Lovely statues and artwork, too. I had no idea what a Rood Screen was (had to look it up), but I can tell it was quite mesmerizing for you. Yes, those carvings are quite unique and the insets/inlays are gorgeous. And I have always been a big fan of 13th and 14th century paintings, so that triptych is incredible. Thanks for sharing these fabulous photos of Albi Cathedral.

Wow, what a gorgeous cathedral. I really like the angels that decorate the walls. They are beautiful and make it feel like you will be flown to heaven. :) Hugs-Erika
