Hi everyone, I will continue with our trip to France if that's okay with you?
We set off for Parthenay to visit the Mediaeval garden on a cloudy morning. It was warm but rain was forecast for later in the day.
The route to the gardens was through the old Mediaeval streets. Our friends had been to Parthenay before but had never been in that area before so it was a treat for us all.
A bee carved into the eaves.
Great shutters here!
It was quite amusing to see our name up on a wall.
The Mediaeval area has lots of art studios and they open for the two weekends, sadly we didn't know about it and missed the first one and couldn't stay for the next one.
All the way up the street there were plants and information sheets. The lady who designed them was out walking her dog and told us about the special weekends that we had seen on the poster.

I hope you can enlarge this to read it
I must say I enjoyed the walk to the gardens more than the gardens themselves, although they were certainly worth the climb.
Down in a little square we found some where to eat - no, not the Cafe des Arts but one from where I took the photo.
....our friends had pizzas and we had Tartines - something on toast, and very delicious!
As you can see we had water to drink.
I am of course stopping at this point to join Bleubeard and Elizabeth For Stands For Tuesday
I did get a quick photo of the inside, although as you can see we ate on a terrace.
From Parthenay we went on to another interesting place....but more of that next week...
Just in case you think weren't going out much (we haven't much since we came back) we did get to Lyme Park last Friday
We sat on this shady bench for a picnic
As you can see, a very sunny day,
Thanks for looking, Chris
Hi Chris-Yes please take us back to France when ever, I always enjoy your travel posts so much, as I know I will never travel much any more.
ReplyDeleteI loved the medieval area you visited-that would have been awesome to catch the artists.
Food looks delicious too-Happy T Kathy
What a fun trip. Cute library. So, we now have to address you and the Mr. as The Duke and Duchess. I love it! I always enjoy the rambling through the gardens, but I'm glad you're the one that has to make the climb. Have a Happy T Day, your Grace.
ReplyDeleteI loved this post Chris. Parthenay looks like a great place to visit. Those buildings are amazing. As is the garden. That manor house is amazing too. What a fantastic trip you took Chris. No wonder you came home so refreshed. I hope it was a super T day. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your trips, Chris. I get to live vicariously that way. I enjoyed reading about both the modern and medieval gardens and how they were split up. I also enjoyed the fact they were in English (grin)! That ancient architecture is very different from anything we see here in the states. I enjoyed seeing all the banners above the doors, too.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed the gardens and the walk to get to them. I would have been exhausted, I suspect, especially since I've become such a lazy non-walker.
Looks like you had a nice lunch, too. I like how you described it as "something on toast." I'll take the salad and fries and let you have the something, something. Water is always a great choice when out and about. Thanks for sharing the photos from these different ventures and your food and water with us for T this Tuesday, dear Chris.
The more photos the better... I love the medieval town, how stunning are the buildings and the gardens too. Gorgeous photos all round! thanks for sharing

ReplyDeleteStunning medieval town! I enjoyed seeing all the buildings and that garden. How lovely!
ReplyDeleteLyme park is gorgeous and certainly on my list to visit if we ever make it over there. A beautiful view! For now, if I want to see it I will just have to watch Pride and Prejudice.
Thank you for sharing! I LOVE seeing all the places you travel!!
Happy Belated Tea Day,
Kate
What a beautiful medieval town. Lovely photos. The steps up to the garden seem a lot. And the gardens themselves I found a bit of an anti-climax, but I managed to read the blurb, so it was quite interesting.
ReplyDeleteLyme Park is beautiful too. You were very lucky with the weather by the looks of it.
Sorry I'm late but as you regulars know, we are away on Tuesday, and today we had a power cut so I'm even later (It's nine pm)
A belated happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
