I am going in reverse order - as in any good build up!!We went off to the cinema today to see a film about the Peterloo Massacre - Mike Leigh did a good job of portraying the story (and some of it was shot in my home city of Lincoln, which I instantly recognised)My only criticism is that the story was not followed up by a note about the reform that came about in English politics as a result of the massacre.
I have had some time to play and make a journal page for Erika's theme at Art Journal Journey -Vintage or Modern.
As you know I love visiting Galleries - so do Oscar and Eric.
I love overhearing snippets of conversations which prompted this page and gave me some ideas for more pages.
Here I attempted to create the style of Mark Rothko!
I love this Elena Zinski characters!!
Now...Vienna!
A few years ago I saw a picture of a Ronald McDonald House in Germany - I can't remember anything else about the programme (or film...I don't know what it was)I have looked it up recently and it is in Essen.
It was built by Friedensreich Hundertwasser.
We didn't have time on our last visit to Vienna so I was determined to get to see the Hundertwasser Haus this time.
I think mostly these photos will speak for themselves, they are of the buildings in the area too.
My first view of the haus!
Oh! I can join Bluebeard and Elizabeth here with our coffees, water and a shared Kaiserschmarm (Susi, if I lived in Vienna I would be as big as this haus because I love this dish of pancake and plums!)
As you can see hubby was as fascinated with this place as much as I and I will use some of his photos if they are better shots than mine!(I have permission!!)
We ate outside but the inside was interesting
Moving on....
I was a little over excited!
We just had to go into the shopping area
We walked along to the Museum
No photos allowed in the exhibition area but we both took photos in the loos!!! I did make some sketches in the exhibition space.
The floors throughout were uneven throughout the building and in fact I walked around the exhibition area twice to experience it!
The shop was interesting and we bought a couple of books and some smaller items
I have been showing photos of our outings in our own beautiful country if you would like to see them - here and here
Thanks for looking, Chrisx
FUN journal page Chris, and I thoroughly enjoyed your travel photos of Vienna-that haus is incredible, and I can see anyone growing larger with the abundance of fabulous food:) Thanks for sharing and happy T day!
ReplyDeletewhat a great place to visit! love how the buildings appear to be "on the wonk" - thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour journal page reminded me of some comments I heard at the Wichita Art Museum this summer. I think those characters, Oscar and Eric, are fabulous and your stampings always amaze me. I'm delighted you chose to share this spread with us at Art Journal Journey.
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible Haus you visited in Vienna. It is charming. I liked Helen's description of the place. It even looks wonky on the outside. The tile work is phenomenal and reminds me of the tiles I have seen in photos of Barcelona. Had to laugh that you got photos of the loos. It showed more tile work, at least. Too bad you couldn't take photos in the exhibition, though. What a great view of the museum from the back gate, too.
T looked serious about taking photos while he waited for you to take a photo of your drinks and Kaiserschmarm. So glad you explained it was pancake and plums. Coffee and water made for great drinks for T this Tuesday, too. Thanks for taking us to the museum and sharing your coffees with us for T.
Fun journal page and great photos. I was in Essen last week, and we saw the Hundertwasser House there, funny you should mention it! Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeletethe gallery visit of oscar and eric is a hoot:)
ReplyDeleteand great memories to me - the hundertwasser haus and the museum. all the details, incl the washing room... - yes, thanks god i do not live in vienna, i would roll around due to all these desserts, aaaahh!!
happy t-day!
Such an interesting postb as always Chris with the amazing photographs and the things you tell us about places you visit.
ReplyDeleteThe fun page is so true though when the things are explained to us by someone who knows it all become clears--or does it?
Have a very happy T Day
Love Chrissie xx
Chris, your fabulous journal page is speaking to me, I love those critters as well. Its a fun page.
ReplyDeleteYour photos were awesome, I think you must have had a wonderful time looking at the buildings and in the museum.
Happy T day wishes.
Yvonne xx
First of all Chris I want to send a BIG thanks for joining AJJ with amazing page. It is a lot of FUN! Those stamped images sure make me smile. And wow. What a cool piece of architecture. It reminds me a bit of the Gaudi architecture in Barcelona, but it sure has a really cool and artsy style. I am really glad you shared it with us and if I ever get that way I am going to check it out. ANd happy T day. Hope its going well. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteThis page is so funny and cool - you are very imaginative Chris! WOW and so lovely with these critters ! I simply love it and what a great entry for AJJ! Thank you so much Chris!
ReplyDeleteAnd wow- I do love this Hundertwasserhaus as well,it's just so unique! We had friends who had a flat years ago in this house and they often told that it wasn't so nice to live there as always so many tourists were around. Hubby helped them to move in many years ago there and he told me that even the corridors were wonky in the house...lol! I can tell you that at least every two weeks I have to make Kaiserschmarrn for my hubby as it is one of his favourite dishes. I am not so keen on it but I often make a salty cheese variation for me when it comes to Kaiserschmarrn and eat salad to it instead of stewed plums or apple sauce . Same dough - so handy for me and since to the dough itself is no sugar added it is easy to handle!
Hubby is tall and slim anyway, but no wonder - he works hard always and needs his calories.
Happy T-Day Chris!
Big hugs
Susi
Good morning, I just love your journal page-so fun!
ReplyDeleteand what a fascinating place you both visited-the architecture very unique-enjoyed the photos of your travels.
Happy T Hugs Kathy
What an absolutely quirky fun place! Fitting you have quirky fun people in your art today, too. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun page, Oscar and Eric look like they are enjoying the gallery ...lol 😉. Thanks for sharing your stunning photos; Vienna looks like an amazing place, the architecture that you found is amazing - I love it! The pancake and plums sounds and looks so yummy too - Happy T Day! J 😊 x
ReplyDeleteWow! What a fun place, so different and (as Rita says) quirky. I love the variety. Happy T Tuesday
ReplyDeleteI love your journal page. I guess we've all had that thought when looking at art. What an amazing building. You just can't help but smile at every turn. Much needed as we've had another day of rain and more expected by the end of the week. Happy T Day
ReplyDeleteWow, Chris! What an amazing and fun place to visit. The architecture is so unusual. I love the crazy lines and various colors and materials used. Thank you for sharing these pictures.
ReplyDeleteYour journal page displays the Zinski images perfectly. I have never heard of Mark Rothko but I will have to look up his style.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate
I want to go there! Looks like so much fun! Love the loo photos! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd the pancakes and plums look wonderful, too. Thank you for sharing these wonderful photos. Happy Tea Day!
Sorry I'm late. Tuesday is my busiest day and I don't get to see my computer until after 10 pm.
ReplyDeleteWhaT a fun page. I just love those characters Oscar and Eric.
The Hundertwasser houses are fabulous. They remind me of Gaudí here in Spain. No straight lines and lots of tiles and colours. I love it! How many buildings did you show us? Or is it all part of the same complex? Amazing. Thank you for sharing.
Happy belated T-Day,
Lisca
What a funny and fun page, Chris. Very clever. Those stamps are just a riot.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fascinating haus. Almost like Alice in wonderland - everything is quite wonky.
Wonderful post!
Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen
ohhh waue i love to go there, what fun houses and greatphotos you took. love your journal page to.
ReplyDeleteFantastic photos, thank you both. Cestina is a big Hundertwasser fan, and I think I probably am now too... would love to see these in person and soon, I suppose, that will be a relatively short trip for me to do that!
ReplyDeleteLove your confused little monsters - I have a similar problem with a good deal of modern art, I'm afraid. I'm waiting for the Peterloo film to be on DVD but very much looking forward to it.

Butterfly is correct, I have always loved Hundertwasser and had a postcard with one of his quotes on the need for architecture to inspire, not depress, on my desk for many years.
ReplyDeleteYour post tempts me back to Vienna to explore his work further - especially as there is a wonderful Breugel exhibition on there at the moment as well!
You will probably think I am talking through my titfer when I say how much these photos reminded me of our trip to Barcelona and the Gaudi buildings. So enjoyed your photos.
ReplyDeleteSo you went to see Peterloo? My neighbour's little grand-daughter is the child in the film. It was exciting hearing about her adventures when filming was going on. This is a must see for me.
Love your journal page Chris - why did I not think of doing something myself? Well, I have not been well so maybe that is my excuse and I am sticking to it.
Hugs, Neet xx
