Jewel Choc and Knutsford

I can hardly believe that we are halfway through the week already! I'm joining Kathy of Hummingbird Studio at the Lake blog for Food Wednesday.

For part of hubby's Christmas present last year I made him a little chocolate treat. We always shop together so there wasn't much chance of him having a surprise! I had to wait until he went out for a haircut-and then it was a race against time!

What I made was a little treat for him that he loved. He has been asking would I make another so on Monday we worked together to make another.

I used some cheap chocolate from the newsagents so they were a little thinner blocks than I had used previously.

I had been cooking lunch so used the remaining heat in the oven to melt the chocolate - it just needs to be soft enough to move with a skewer.

I swirled it around to mix the two together - dark and white milk - until they looked well mixed (you could just leave the blocks as they are)

I had my prepared 'jewels' ready on a plate

In this case candied peel, chopped cranberries, crushed amaretti biscuit and chopped pecans

Sprinkle the 'jewels' and give a little press

Allow to set - I made room in my fridge.

Finally break up into bite size pieces (or larger!)
The topping is entirely up to you, but nuts always work well, I used some broken chocolate biscuits, raisins and chopped dried apricots with nuts the first time I made it. Of course the chocolate you use can be any combination.

Ours in in a box at the front of the fridge - but it won't be for long!

Now, I hope Kathy doesn't mind but I am adding some of my photos here.

After we had our walk in Tatton Park we went to Knutsford - one of the main streets is well known for places to eat - almost every other building has food connections.

It is a very interesting town and has a town trail street museum with signs on walls with pictures of old Knutsford.
The tea room is where we had our drinks and cake but as you can see - there is a very good specialist cheese shop in this little area too!!

Thanks for looking, I'll be back later with some Spring flowers, Chris

  1. That looks easy and yummy. And I will have to try that since I am addicted to chocolate. I bet the hubby loved it. And those "village" photos look so lovely. We don't have those tudor style buildings here. Nor do we have pink spring flowers yet either. Smile. Thanks for sharing. hugs-Erika

  2. That looks very, very sweet!
I was in the same dilemma once, we traveled together, it was my turn to fill the car, I needed a bag of ice for our coolbox, grabbed a cake, too, like a Hunchback cake behind my back, ice in front and till today Ingo says he didn´t see it.

Beautiful place for a walk there!

  3. Hi Chris, No I don't mind at all as I love love seeing your photos, what a sweet looking village, enjoyed seeing blooming flowers and love the styles in this village.
I have made your treat around christmas time and we both love it-your idea of melting the chocolate is so much easier too, I would completely melt it in a pan over water and then I still have a marble slab Larry brought to our marriage many years ago and I pour it on there and add the toppings. for some reason they call this almond bark here in the States-don't know why that it is though. I may try your method next time
Loved how you were able to make a batch for a surprise for your husband too. So happy you linked up with Food Wednesdays Hugs Kathy

  4. You made bark. I love that stuff. Knutsford looks like a cute little village to putter around. I wish we had tea rooms here.

  5. That chocolate looks delicious. I sometimes buy these kinds of treats around Christmas-time, and even tried making what I called "bark" a couple of times. Yours is so pretty!

  6. That candy looks wonderful. I would like it without the toppings just as well. Have a nice day.

  7. Chocolate is always good at any time - yours looks so yummy! And it sounds easy enough, I might give it a try, probably with lots of nuts.

  8. What a wonderful treat you fixed for your husband, Chris. I like that you used both white and milk chocolates. Really lovely treats with fruit and nuts.

I swear, that little village reminds me of places you would see in Midsomer Murders. I was expecting to see a film crew nearby (grin). Loved this and these photos!

  9. Yum! I make variations of that type of treat too. For Halloween, I added all sorts of fun Halloweenie candy to it!
