First of all I had to go to get a routine blood test done at our local hospital!
It is very close to an area we used to visit years ago so I had promised myself a coffee and cake afterwards (err...my test was for my blood sugar...but you didn't read that!!!)
We didn't go in here,if I had a hot chocolate I wouldn't have cake!
We headed for an old favourite, Burton Road Bakery!
I am joining Bleubeard and Elizabeth for T Stands For Tuesday
After last week's hubby overload I don't have a shot this week as we had to sit side by side, space was a bit tight!!
Just after taking this photo it filled right up!
Afterwards we had a little walk and saw these lovely Spring flowers for sale!
Best of all was the street art, which definitely wasn't there last time we came down here!
Now, you're thinking, what about the rescue...
We went out this afternoon, planning to take a long walk around the village..
...this is just outside the main gate and the river is at the red wall at the end of the road (notice the lovely newly resurfaced road!)
When we got to the river we saw this...
It was a crew from the fire brigade having a practice rescue - the man we spoke to on the bank was happy not to be one of the ones in the water!!!
The water coming over the weir was flowing quite fast and although there was a pulley system to help them up they finally had to abandon their plan and get out onto the ramp.
We spent some time there and got quite cold so we had to have our walk to get warm..
..the crocuses are flowering on the nearby green..
...and finally the church on the corner which was hidden by the tree last time I showed you!
I will be around for some of tomorrow so hope to see you then!
Thanks for looking, Chris
Hi, good luck with your sugar test. Your walk looks nice that would have been interesting to watch the rescue exercise.
ReplyDeleteawesome you have spring bulbs coming already.
Happy T Day Kathy
Hope that glucose level was good:) When I saw that first rescue pic my heart sank thinking they were looking for someone who had fallen in and gotten in trouble. So glad it was practice! Wow, Spring flowers already? Can't say I've seen any at all here. Ha ha-hubby gets a photo break for T day- he must've thanked you:):) Have a great rest of the week and happy T day!
ReplyDeleteI'm with everyone else, in hoping your blood tests are favorable. You sort of left us hanging on that. You are a real tease.
ReplyDeleteI noticed all the green plants outside the Burton Road Bakery and marveled this is just February. Then I saw the plant sale and was surprised they were outside and not frozen, like my plant shoots that have erupted this week.
That was wonderful street art. You should visit my friend Sami and link them to her blog where once a week she and others share street art and murals:

Wow, some rescue attempt. It's a good thing it was only a drill, and I'm sure if a person had really been in trouble, the crew wouldn't have given up.
That leads us back to T this Tuesday. I am delighted you and your darling husband joined us, even if I'm not a strawberry fan and really don't like rhubarb. I DID like the drinks, though. Thanks for sharing them with us for T this Tuesday.
Good job you went for coffee and cake after your blood sugar test!! happy coincidence that you found the fire brigade training session! it does look cold to be messing about in the river, though!!
ReplyDeleteoh I forgot, what fantastic street art! I'd have that on my wall any day!
ReplyDeleteHope your sugar test turned out well. The cake looks good. Loved seeing the photos of the fire brigade practising, I always enjoy watching them here, too.And that street art is fantastic, how lovely. Have a happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteLike the look of your cake Chris. And I love the street art. wish there was more of it around, it certainly brightens ones day to see street art - but then maybe some folks don't like it. This is particularly good and I would love to see something like this for real.
ReplyDeleteLovely walk, great experience watching the rescue.
Hugs, Neet xx
what uneventful day Chris and I hope the blood tests are satisfactory. Your cake does look yummy and the street art is amazing. Looks rather cold to be having a practice rescue but I guess they have to do it.
ReplyDeleteTFS and best wishes
Annie x
oh, my "pics of the day" are these wonderful street art photos you showed us!! they are from phlegm (who is from sheffield, but maybe you know that)and i adore his style!! he also has a blog and instagram account, if interested you find it here: https://phlegmcomicnews.blogspot.de/
ReplyDeleteat the Moment i´m just happy not to be in this cold water LOL!
have a great day, xox
Hope all went well with the blood tests. My son just had his checks on Monday. You would be ready for a cuppa and something to eat , did you have to starve for a few hours before hand like he does.
ReplyDeleteThe cafe you went to looked good.
Super photos, but I did feel sorry for those poor firemen in that what must have been freezing water.
Happy T Day wishes.
Yvonne xx
That was an exciting day. Yummy too from the look of that cake. :) And very cool street art. At this time of year it feels good to go out for a walk. I've been sitting inside so much I miss being outside. I bet it was interesting to watch that crew practice a rescue too. Glad to hear it was no one was actually stuck in the water or hurt. :) Hope it been a great T day so far-and you have a great rest of your day too. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteYou had a busy day. As to your cakes, well, they both had fruit in them. Fruit is good for you. =^,.^= Winter must be the time of year to practice water rescues. The fire department in my town had a drill on a nearby lake. Even though they wear protective suits, I bet the water was still frigid. Won't see crocus here for another month or so. Those under the tree will look spectacular when they bloom. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteWow, you had quite the adventure ...lol π. I enjoyed looking around and seeing the sights with you, your cuppa and cakes look so delicious - yum! I'm loving that amazing street art too π. Wishing you a Happy T Day! J π
ReplyDeleteI was glad to see the rescue was a rehearsal :) Those desserts look delicious, and I didn't have breakfast so it's making me hungry lol The crocuses are a delightful sign of spring, and it's a joy to see them. Happy T Tuesday
ReplyDeleteGood luck for the sugar test dear Chris!Fabulous photos of the fire brigade practising- exciting! And amazing dstreet art !Your cuppa and cake look so tempting!
ReplyDeleteHappy T-Day!
Im sitting here humming cocoa cabana by mr manilow haha..photos look great that weir reminds me of Chester how exciting and what a superb job our hunky firemen do
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the test results, Chris. You had me on tenterhooks with the rescue photos.
ReplyDelete1. I'm glad it wasn't a real rescue attempt that could go either way; and
2. I'm glad they're practicing for when one is needed!
Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen
That church is magnificent! Your walking route was beautiful and I loved the artwork on the brick, the flowers in the stands and that yummy piece of dessert. Totally not good for blood sugar so I hope you are not a diabetic but I am sure it tastes good ;)
ReplyDeleteHave a happy tea day,
Kate
I think we are related! I always reward myself with food! In fact tomorrow, I go for blood tests for all the things they test us for. So fasting overnight, and no breakfast, so guess what I will have to reward myself after with something good! LOL I always enjoy your walks. Thanks you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHappy T-Day!
Chris i hope your blood test went well.. Hubby has to have a sugar test too now and then.. never fun as it often requires fasting.. That street art is just fabulous! Quirky and right up my alley.. lol Well that practice rescue must have been exciting to watch! i wouldn't want to have to do it in the cold water.. brrr.. Things are starting to grow around here too.. Daffodils are not blooming but they are starting to peek out of the ground.. Your food looks yummy.. I do not like to eat anything sweet with my coffee as i like my coffee sweet. The only way i have ever had rhubarb is fresh out of the garden when i was little .. I would grab a stalk out of my Grandpa's garden and eat it.. Sour!!!! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post today! I hope the blood test was OK (if your sugar is too high you might not be allowed to eat those heavenly cakes anymore). And heavenly they certainly look. Especially the rhubarb slice. We can't get rhubarb here so I crave it of course. I am literally drooling!
ReplyDeleteThat Street art is fantastic! I do so like that. I used to know who the artist is but his/her name escapes me at the momento. I will let you know when and if I remember.
How fascinating that you were able to witmness and capture the rescue practice.
We used to live near Bath and there is a weir there too. Very dangerous. It looks innocent enough but the wΓ‘ter is deceptively powerful.
Belated happy T-Day,
Lisca
