My latest page for Art Journal Journey is a bit of an experiment! It's technique that I learnt from Lindsay Mason many years ago!
I found this picture in a magazine. I made a background with Dylusions sprays and then gessoed over the cut out image
I then used paint to make my own image...
..poor girl she had to have a nose job after hubby said she looked a bit like my son's French Bulldog, and I tried really hard with the mouth, but think she will have to have a another makeover sometime soon!!
This is for my '101 Ways to Keep Warm' theme and I am also linking to Paint Party Friday
Thanks for looking, Chris

I think she just looks very cold, but isn't trying to shiver. She's making the please it is time to go inside face. Happy weekend. Hugs-Erika
Great way to use a given image Chris, love this idea. I think we in the UK will be hugging our heads daily with the falling temperatures and we could all use a hat just like this one..
Warm Hugs Tracey xx
I tried this technique once and I have to admit, you did a FAR better job than I did. I think this is fabulous and was proud you tried. Ask T if he can do better (GRIN)! It's a wonderful AJJ entry, too.
Great art
Fun piece, hugs, Valerie
this is a great idea to paint over a face and play. I have yet to try it but you now have me inspired to do it sooner rather than later:)
O.k. maybe Cara Delevingne has a lovelier mouth in real - but please don't listen what hubby tells you! As I started with faces my family always laughed at my paintings - but I carried on and now they say that I paint good faces meanwhile and get the expression of the people I paint. You painted her the most wonderful eyes she could wish for! I think you got her expression very well - good job Chris and I am really serious about this! I did this technique as well - we called it "overpainting technique" - learned it from YT - I don't know from whom exactly-
it was/is super to start with faces I think - in the end nobody can see that you took a magazine image to overpaint it! But I always put too much white gesso on the images and couldn't see exactly what was underneath - so I had to first take a photo of the image as later reference.
Now as I am more in Mixed Media I woud take clear gesso, or a mix of acrylic medium with white gesso to overpaint.
You inspired me, maybe if I see a lovely image I will try this techique again!
Great idea and I love all the wonderful colours you used! This blues are heavenly and I like the colours you have used much more as the colours on the initial magazine photo.
Happy weekend my friend and host!

I think you did a great job,, I find faces soooooo hard to do, thanks for sharing her!!!
I think you've done well Chris, so take no notice of hubby, I'm no good at painting faces, so this sounds like a good technique.

Great page, you did a good job. Painting a portrait is not so easy.

Oh what a fun technique! I LOVE the background. I am not familiar with Dylusions sprays - I will look it up! Gorgeous effect.
You know what I love her expression and I agree with what Susi said keep going not matter what others say!! I've done this a few times and always find the faces to be more real with great expressions!! Very inspirational!!
