Let's Face It.......

........there are lots of folk not doing their bit!

We have a new theme and host at Art Journal Journey - 'Let's Face It' is the new theme and we have another fellow administrator as our host - Erika of Bio Art Girl blog.

If you read her words on the AJJ blog you will see that all kinds of faces are welcome here this month!

I really didn't intend starting the New Year Like this but seeing the news and hearing that there are still millions haven't even taken up the offer of a first Covid vaccination and of the boosters booked 40% of booked slots were 'no shows. That, and the fact that every time I see I bus pass by sometimes only half are wearing the mandatory face coverings. I see folks walking past the hand sanitiser provided in shops and as for standing aside and social distancing.....I won't say how I feel about those people.

When are we all going to start caring for each other?

I too, am guilty of not wearing my mask sometimes when I go into a shop(I soon realise), although I am just as likely to come out of a shop and continue to wear my mask until hubby asks me why I am wearing my mask in the car!

When I found this photo in a local magazine I knew what kind of page it would make.
I pasted scraps of book and music paper onto my page then gave it a coat of gesso. I then used a Christmas present from my hubby - some Derwent Graphite paints to colour it.
I added some marks with black and white pens
I roughly cut a circle from an old piece of gelli printed paper to frame the health care worker - one of the people we used to unite together and clap for in 2020 (at the time I really felt that we all really were going to pull together)

I found the quote on the internet and then wrote my question at the bottom along with ways that we all help each other during the pandemic. I have no doubt that most folk reading this already conform in every way, and I guess that you may feel the same as I do!

I'd like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and a hope that we can eventually beat this nasty virus.

Thanks for looking, Chris

  1. This is really timely, Chris. I think it shows how some of us care about the future of our society and some don't. Many stores I visit (OK, I have only been to Aldi and Dollar Tree) don't offer hand sanitizer. Neither place I visited had hand sanitizer in sight. That's why I wear disposable gloves when I go out. I think we can all learn a good lesson from your journal page, and it's really perfect for Erika's theme at Art Journal Journey. Happy New Year.

  2. Wonderful first page, Chris, I love it. ere, too many don't/ won't wear masks or get vaccinated an claim that the government is bad and that Corona is a fairy tale etc. Some just never learn. Have a happy and healthy new year! Hugs, Valerie

  3. Oh Chris, I might have written this myself apart from the fact that I haven't been in a shop yet without my mask. I usually realise as soon as the car is locked that my mask is inside and we have to go back for it. I often feel like I still need to wear it in the street if it is crowded (not that I go in crowded streets often, only on my visits to the chiropractor). The thing is I wear my mask to protect others, not myself - why can they not protect me?
A great idea and a great page Chris. Glad you have got it out there.
    Hugs, Neet xx

  4. A fantastic page for the new AJJ theme Chris and it so relates to the times we are currently living in.
Happy New Year Wishes to you and your family
Stay safe and keep well and lets hope the world will be safer from this virus in the coming months.

  5. This is such a timely page Chris. The healthcare workers are our heroes. But talk about people who haven’t had an easy time of it since this pandemic started. I always notice the number of unmasked people around me, and the high numbers of Unvaccinated people reported. This pandemic is never going to end at the rate we are going. Anyhow. I could be on a soapbox too. But I love this page and this first start to January. Thanks so much for making this one to start. And on a positive thinking note: happy new year to you and your husband. I hope it’s a good one. Hugs Erika

  6. Perfect page for the last few years, Chris. So many heroes in all this - including ourselves since we have endured a lot. Love how you focused on the healthcare worker - they deserve big praise. Super well done and thoughtful page! Happy New Year! Hugz

  7. The reality is that handmade cloth masks don't work-only the medical masks work and here in the states they aren't available-or were not in the beginning and were saved only for the health workers.
and the shots do Not keep you from getting covid-you may get less ill but it is not a shot that prevents you from this disease. I think of these shots like flu shots it will help you from getting very ill but may not protect you from getting the flu. these shots should never have been called vaccines that will prevent the illness because they do not do that.
I do my part by constantly sanitizing my hands when I need to go food shopping. and I constantly sanitize around the house if someone should drop by. which we see very few people any more. when I fill up at the gas station I immediately sanitize my hands again and my steering wheel in the car
Your page does fit our world right now and I appreciate it too focusing on our care workers-but I refuse to live in fear-I just try hard to take care of my home space, and be sensible if I have to shop (you can delete my comment if you prefer)

  9. Some people can't seem to see beyond their own (uncovered) noses. They can't see a bigger picture and that we are all "us". They live in an "us vs. them" world. Pandemics do not care what they believe. It only sees us.

  10. A great way to start off the year Chris, I agree wholeheartedly with all that you say. As a carer I will never understand how people can be so selfish.
Wishing you and yours all the best for 2022 Hugs Tracey x

  12. Lovely art on your page, Chris, and I'll wish for you the gift of peace in your thoughts, because there's not a damn thing you or anyone else can do about it. Next month it will be 2 years of home self-isolation for me, let that drink in, only 3 times out, once to vote and 3x to get jabs. If every human being on this earth did what you want them to, I'd still have to be sitting here. Cherish your trips to nature and errands and the like, no matter how imperfect the circumstances. I've had to learn, don't stress over what you cannot control, my friend. Just art journal and let it go, XOXOXOX

  13. A good reminder that we aren't through this yet.

  14. A fabulous memory that makes a great bravo shout out, it's no different in Germany, that worries me too! Even in our holiday area by the sea, the local owners don't ask for proof of vaccination and nothing else is checked, that's irresponsible! Happy New Year, hugs Elke

  15. Wonderful art.

Are you aware of how many people around the WORLD are not vaccinated, because many countries can't afford to buy the vaccines? I doubt they have masks, either.

  17. True. I've switched to the N95 masks, since that's the current recommendation, and I wear them on my weekly grocery trips whether or not they're required. Other than that I don't go anywhere. I long for Lunch Out!

    Happy New Year!
