Red Sky...and blue!

Hi everyone, I have an old saying today for you.

When high pressure is coming in from the west there may often be a red sunset indicating that good weather is on it's way. A red sunrise usually means that the high pressure has passed by to the east, more than likely giving way to a wet and windy low pressure system.

There are several versions of the saying globally but as a child growing up in Lincolnshire it was

'Red sky at night, shepherd's delight,

Red sky in the morning, shepherd's warning'

While having a tidy up in my craft room I came across some felted pictures I made a few years ago. This one just had to be part of my page.

I used some torn gel printed paper and added some faux text using my string covered block. The circle was cut from a page that already had yellow on it - I added touch of red. On the other side of the felted picture I used some metallic paints. The words were created on the computer, the sheep drawn in with pen.

This page is of course for my 'All Kinds Of Weather' theme at Art Journal Journey

No chance of a red sunset here today - it has been grey all day!

Yesterday we went to Bodnant where the sky was mainly blue and white.

Blogger, because it can, has reversed the order of these!
This was the very last photo though!

Thanks for looking, Chris

  1. Blogger does that to me too, with my Kew pics. drives me scatty! Such beautiful skies in your photos though.
whilst I know the saying well of course, I had never twigged it was the high pressure/low pressure causing the sunset/sunrise..... I love the felted picture.

  3. here was say sailor rather than shepard. And we say this a lot here in New Hampshire because wait 5 minutes, and the weather will change. (I think I need to make a page that says that-smile.) This is a gorgeous page Chris. I love how you added the felt piece, which works really well. And beautiful photos too. The clouds reflected in that pool are amazing. Have a super weekend. Hugs-Erika

  4. Thanks for sharing the lovely photos! Love your art, too, we all used to chant that saying when we are at school. Today we had red in the morning, so beautiful. Have a great weekend, hugs, Valerie

  5. I'm just a little South of Erika so the saying was with sailor and not shepherd's too. We also have changeable weather every 5 min. The felted piece is perfect on your page. Serendipitous find. I can see Tolkien's Middle Earth in your photos! Enjoy the weekend.

  6. I had never heard that saying until a few years ago when an internet friend created a post with that saying. Like Erika, I learned it sailor's, so now I see why you used the sheep in the field. This is another inspiring entry for your theme at Art Journal Journey, dear Chris.
