T Stands for....the trip back in time

Last Friday we went to visit a place I hadn't been to since I was teaching, in fact way before I retired!

I couldn't believe the changes. What was just a small site of mainly ruins (ideal for school trips) and a small garden is now on two sites and had a huge modern viewing gallery, museum and cafe as well a huge walled garden.

Norton Priory is the most unusual setting as an industrial estate has been built very close by, however, the woodland walk to get to the walled garden was very peaceful and the garden is amazing.

We started in the garden...of course!!

After being inside the walled garden we walked around the outside

Back to the entrance
After Our picnic we went into the Priory.

Sadly most of the Priory is ruins, only this small part of the building is only at this low level and outside is just foundations

Above the ruins is the viewing gallery and it extends to the newly built visitor centre

More woods before heading back to the cafe in the visitor centre..where I will join Bleubeard and Elizabeth at The Altered Book Lover for T Stands For Tuesday.
Coffee - Latte for hubby and an Americano for me, with a shared scone.

It was a lovely day out and somewhere we will visit again ...but next time we won't lose our way home!!
It was in a very difficult place to find our way out of!!

Thanks for looking, Chris

  1. It must have been especially something to see it all after so many years. It is all so beautiful, except for the sad ruin of the Priory. So much history, and what's there of it looks so wonderful. Oh both those coffees looks so good- I may have to make myself a decafe version right now:) Hope you weren't lost for too long or had gone too far out of your way. Happy T day!

  4. That looks very beautiful. Was the building originally torn down in the days of Henry VIII when he disestablished catholic institutions? Or is it more recent? I guess those who don’t approve are antidisestablishmentarians. Wow, who gets to use that word?

  5. I swear Chris, the Priory reminds me of one from Midsomer Murders. It's too bad the Priory is in such state of ruin. It's great that you were able to return after all those years and see how things have changed and apparently for the better. The grounds are truly gorgeous. I see where you surprised T as he was checking out some flowers.

Thank you for allowing me to join you at Norton Priory. It was great to see the garden and grounds and it was wonderful to see your shared scone and T's latte and your Americano you shared with us for T this Tuesday, dear friend.

  6. Wow Chris. I don't know what was more exciting, the garden or the priory. That stained glass looking art piece with the faces was amazing. And that is one giant bee hotel. I think it is great how they combined these together. I bet you had a fantastic day out. Hope it was a nice T day too. Hugs-Erika

  9. Chris you do visit some lovely places, beautiful gardens and it looks so peaceful for a lovely walk, I do miss the greenery of England sometimes, my husband says greenery equals rain, lots of it! It’s so hot here I would love to walk around those gardens.
Always lovely to share a scone, my husbands favourite treat.
    Happy belated T Day

  11. Again, a beautiful garden! I love walled gardens as they are a bit more sheltered, which makes it more pleasant to walk through, but also they will have more exotic plants and flowers.
It's a shame the priory is just a ruin, but that's the way it goes. Henry VIII has a lot to answer for. But the bit that is still standing is very beautiful.
Your coffees and scones look yummy.
    Happy T-Day,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

Sorry you got lost on your way home. Looks like it was worth the trip, though.

  17. Beautiful gardens. I was very excited to see inside the Priory. At the Worcester Art Museum where I work there is a Chapter House that came to WAM stone by stone in the 1930s and reconstructed inside the museum! Same type of fireplace. The stone columns and arches are a bit taller. Happy T Day
