T stands for .....Toulouse was great!

Hi everyone! It's been a mixed few days - we went out on Sunday - across the pennines to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park with my son and granddaughter and eldest grandson. It was a lovely sunny day and we walked quite a long way through some lovely scenery, interspersed with some arty treats. I will save the pics for a rainy day!!

Sadly yesterday our friend passed away, he had been in hospital since the night after we last went out with him and his wife and at the time we came away knowing that something wasn't quite right!

I haven't done much crafting and felt an urge to do some re-organising in my craft room today which made me feel much better!!!

After my tale of the beginning of our stay inToulouse I am pleased to say it took a big upturn after that!
We went to visit St Sernin Basilica
They were doing pavement repairs so it was difficult to get an outside shot without workmen in!
The inside was cool and beautiful!

We stopped off for a drink in a large square - Place du Capitole - I had a Lemon presse that I topped up with water while hubby had a Sprite. Here's hubby with his 'have you quite finished' look!
This is the Town Hall
It was very hot so we only had a little look around and then headed for shade in another church - Notre Dame de Taur -

The weather was gradually getting hotter! We had seen warnings on TV and reassurances from President Macron that they were prepared...they were, we saw standpipes in the street and shelter provided for those who needed it.

I'll show you how we spent our last day another time!

As it is so late here I shall be visiting later in the week
Thanks for your visit today, Chrisx

  3. I'm also sorry to read about your friend's passing. I know how that can affect you.

Your photos of St. Sernin Basilica were incredible. You did a great job keeping the workers out of the shot. The interior was drop dead gorgeous. Some of the art on the wall appears to be 13th Century or so.

What is a lemon press? Whatever it is, it certainly looks good and refreshing, too. T looks like he posed for the photo, though.

The Town Hall was lovely, and the market looks unique.

You DO love your churches. Notre Dame de Taur was really different. Some of it looked worn and tired, while the gold on the columns looked incredible.

Thanks for taking us to two cathedrals today, then sharing a drink with us for T this Tuesday, dear friend.

The photos today looked great. I really like going into old churches and seeing how they look inside. A plus on hot days is that they always seem so cool.

  12. Apologies for not visiting earlier Chris...
so sorry for the loss of your friend. It's never easy and we can only hold on to the wonderful memories and celebrate their life lived.

That basilica is just stunning- and that one photo you took of it looking up to the ceiling- wow!!! I so loved visiting as many churches, etc. as I could, along with visiting cemeteries too:) Glad to know that after a rough start you managed quite a fine time of it!

Ha ha- love the look on hubby's face:):)

  14. I'm sorry to hear about your friend. My sincere condolences.
Thanks for the pics of Toulouse. The basilica looks very impressive indeed. And the Notre Dame de Taur looks an unusual shape looking at your photo.
Sorry I'm late in commenting. We are having problems with the power lines in the strong winds. The power goes off every few minutes for a short while and then it takes my computer a few minutes to boot up again. Nightmare!
    Happy belated T-Day,
    Hugs,

  15. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. How sad. The soaring arches of the Basilica in Toulouse seem just right to allow thoughts and prayers to rise on high. I far prefer Romanesque round arches to the later Gothic pointy ones. Thank you as always for sharing your travels - I'm looking forward to a trek across the Pennines soon.
    Hugs,
    Alison x
