I think a lot of you may see Kew on Helen's photo blog and I hope that you (and Helen) will enjoy seeing our take on it! Helen is a true guide - most of the time we were trying to find shade - it was the hottest day we had in London- and if you want an explanation of where we were you may find that looking here may help!!
We were lucky that our train journey using our '2 Together' card allowed us 2 for 1 entrance fee!
On entering we were given guides and there was a map by the path.
I saw Helens photos of the bluebells taken 3 days later - although these were in a shady part by the entrance - they looked as though the warm weather had done them good!
We have seen some lovely bluebells locally too this week
At last we came to The Hive!
Looking up into the Hive - which suddenly filled with schoolchildren!!!
...and I love these - (Helen - a name please?)
As we walked around we heard a loud noise - parakeets!
Next is where something incredible happened...
I was taking a photograph of the Gunnera shoots when a huge fish jumped up out of the water - you can just see a ripple on the left..
..and the circle of ripples once I had recovered from the fright enough to photograph it!
The Fritillaries were beautiful - both the Imperial Crowns...
..and the Snakesheads...
Another noise alerted me to the fact that Mr Jay was around(I still haven't managed to take a photo of the pair that are around our complex at home...and hubby took this shot!
Now, to the Orangery for T Stands For Tuesday over at Bleubeard and Elizabeth's place! We chose a spot in front of an open door, with a lovely breeze blowing through, to share our egg sandwiches and crisps, washed down with some coke (not a drink I often have these days but we were on holiday!!)
I have lots more photos of Kew so I may come back to them one day!
I'll be along to visit as soon as I can!
Thanks for looking, Chris
I loved all of your beautiful spring photos-so pretty. In our younger days my husband and I raised birds to sell to the small pet shops-we raised that breed if parakeet but now I can not remember its name.
ReplyDeleteHappy T Day Kathy
I recognized the Palm House and the Green in the first photo, but I was unfamiliar with the rest of the places. And I couldn't make out the map very well, even though I enlarged all the photos.
ReplyDeleteAh, the Hive. I somehow doubt too many of my U.S. friends visit Helen's blog, which is a shame, because she is so knowledgable about the plants. But in case anyone sees this from the states, the HIVE is a structure that is somehow attached to the beehive located on the property. Lights and sound show bee activity. I would LOVE to see it, because it would almost be sensory overload for me.
The plants in front of the Palm House look good and the flowers in the meadow are beautiful. For some reason, I thought there were only tulips there.
My dear, dear friend, I hate to tell you, you did NOT have a coke. You had a PEPSI. For those who love Pepsi, you have caused outrage. For those who love coke, even more outrage. Me? I'll take coffee (grin) and an egg sandwich.
Thanks for sharing these awesome Kew photos and your DRINK and sandwich with us for T this Tuesday. I can't wait to see where else you went while there.
I forgot to mention that I noticed you got a photo of Helen's statue in the pond.
ReplyDeleteChris i can't thank you enough for taking me around Kew Gardens... Just gorgeous. The greenhouse... I assume thats what the white structure is... looks remarkably like the greenhouse at the San Francisco Botanical Gardens.. I wonder if they modeled it after Kew? Anyway .. thank you so much again Chris.. I live vicariously through you. :) Happy happy T day! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteGlad you got to enjoy my favourite place to visit - the acid green plants you loved are Euphorbia. Shame that the heat was too much to enjoy a lot of the gardens- you'll just have to come back! Thank you for sharing your visit and photos (and T's photos!) I hope to see some more.
ReplyDeleteKew gardens is always a wonderful place to visit, we used to go there a lot when I was at school. You got some great shots. Pity the fish was too quick! Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeletethe blue sky through the magnolia blossoms... the distorted trees... the cool "Hive"... and a FIELD of snakeheads!! (i have 3 this year in my garden, which is overwhelming for me LOL!) you are blessed! thanks for sharing these spring highlights with us! sometimes i feel like having a second life when watching your blog tours, places i will probably never see in person.

ReplyDeleteOh, thank you for letting me tag along with you to Kew Gardens. What a beautiful spot. I had to go look up The Hive sculpture. And saw some video of it as well as the artist describing his vision. Wow, that is so cool! Looking forward to more photos of Kew. Happy T Day
ReplyDeleteKew Gardens has some lovely unusual flowers (at least to me), Chris. Aww, the wild parakeets are cute.

ReplyDeleteThank you for taking me to Kew Gardens. Another place that i have never been to. I have only visited London twice. What an amazing place. I was a bit baffled by the artwork The Hive and I googled it. I found it was a structure that is connected to a beehive. Fascinating.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are beautiful. I'm sure they all have had a boost with all that sunshine you have had.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca
What a beautiful outing you must have had. Those flowers are stunning and there are so many that I have never seen before. Your photography is lovely.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tea Day,
Kate
These gardens are gorgeous! And y'all did get some great photos. The map helps me see how large it is and how much they offer there. You got the best seat in the house for your meal :)
ReplyDeleteI missed T Tuesday completely, but Happy Whatever-Day-You're-Observing :)
