We had some time away in my home town of Lincoln, met up for lunch with an old friend, had coffee with my brother and went out for a walk and a meal with my cousin and her hubby. They are returning to Australia this week. Sad to say…none of these events got recorded on camera!!!!
We did have time to look around the upper part of the city and ventured down hill (and back again).
The guest house we stayed in was very cosy, with it's own sitting room..
…yes the beams are real!
This is the wall outside our door.
Hubby caught me about to take this photo..which you can also see here.
When I lived in Lincoln we lived in the south of the city but we could see the cathedral! In fact there aren't many places you can't see it as it is at the top of a steep hill, which is actually called Steep Hill!
We walked across to the castle…( I know that this phrase amused a certain someone at Divers and Sundry blog!)…and posed for the obligatory photo by the cannon (my boys and my grandchildren would have climbed on…and have in the past!!)
We set off towards the hill, passing the information centre which was once the bank where my Aunt used to work...
…and Exchequer Gate, with the imposing cathedral behind it!This was the gate where the citizens of Lincoln came in Mediaeval times to pay their taxes.
There are lots of lovely little shops and eateries on the hill
We stopped taking photos here - only to pick up where we left off on the way back.
There is a rail most of the way up (and seats half way up which are handy on a hot day but not necessary this time).
I was pleased to hang on to the rail though and hubby caught me having a rest as I neared halfway!
We went through the gate to see the floodlit cathedral
We wished we had been into the church on the corner earlier in the day as there was a meeting going on in the hall when we came back.
Hubby got this shot of one of the windows though!
Now,this is where I can join Bleubeard and Elizabeth for T Stands For Tuesday.
I did remember to take a photo at breakfast the next morning.
The owner has deliberately left this part of the wall exposed in this old Coaching Inn
Breakfast was cooked to order and was delicious!
This was the view from the car park as we left.
Although the weather was cold we really enjoyed our visit and it was interesting to see changes in the city as we drove to the south of the city to see my brother.
I will be back with another journal page later but for now I need some sleep!
Thanks for looking, Chris
I love reading about your adventures!

I love reading and viewing all of your photos from your adventures too-you find the coolest places to visit.
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing the french press
Happy T Day Kathy
Lincoln is just lovely. What more could you want, a castle and all those old buildings. You can just sense the history in your photos. And those are pretty cool beams in your hotel. Never mind a cathedral too. I think your trip sounds perfect-some beautiful scenery, a nice family visit...thanks for sharing. And Happy T day too. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous post from Lincoln, dear Chris. I can see why it is so special to you. You do a LOT of walking, don't you? I really enjoyed the photos of you and of the city, too. Everything was beautiful from morning to night.

ReplyDeleteLincoln is one of those cities I really want to visit, especially after your wonderful photos. It is very steep though; I guess you are (or get) fit if you live there!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing those beautiful photos of Lincoln, I was very happy in the year I spent there, and still miss all the lovely places in town. We had lodgings one year in one of the old houses on Steep Hill, that was fun except for the mice.... Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeletelooks like a nice break ...love those old beams too
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos from your stay in Lincoln. I would need more than one stop walking up that hill.

Lincoln looks such a beautiful place and I'm so glad your shared your amazing photos and memories - perfect π. It sounds like you had the most wonderful time with your family and friends too. I like the B&B where you stayed too and I was imagining staying there and then I noticed that those ceilings look low so I'm not sure my hubby would be able to stand up straight being 6'2"...lol π ...I'd be ok though ...lol π. Wishing you a Happy T Day! J
ReplyDeleteThank you for letting me tag along on your trip to Lincoln. It's such a beautiful city. Is this the same Lincoln as in the color Robin Hood's men wore? Lincoln Green? Happy T Day! And tell Hubby I missed him posing with a drink and food. =^,.^=
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! I have never been to Lincoln but it looks beautiful Chris...looks like you had an amazing time there
ReplyDeleteTFS and hugs Annie x
"We walked across to the castle"!!! Yes! That's just priceless and would never get old :) No matter how far I walk, I never get to a castle ;) I love the fact that you show such _old_ sites. Here in Memphis the "old" sights are from the 1800s lol
ReplyDeleteI love these virtual adventures, and always enjoy walking with you :) That guest house is delightful, and I'd enjoy coffee in that setting. I love how they highlighted original elements in the Coaching Inn.
Happy T Tuesday!
What fun to visit there with you. It looks so undisturbed and full of history. I have to go back and look at the pictures once again just so I can take in every little detail.
ReplyDeleteIsn't Lincoln beautiful! I have never been there and have enjoyed seeing all your fantastic photos. The guesthouse looks really wonderful. And they did a good breakfast by the sound of it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca
Love the beams and exposed wall! Great photos Chris! xox
ReplyDeletewonderful Pictures of the buildings and of course the cathedral is spectacular!
ReplyDeletehave a great week:)
Lincoln looks well worth a visit - I think I paid a flying visit to the cathedral once, but can't remember spending any time in the town. You seem to have been lucky with the guest house too - it looks absolutely charming.

Lincoln is a lovely town. I love the sense of history that has been so well tended and how pristine and well kept the streets are. Just lovely. Thank you for the tour, Chris.
ReplyDeleteHappy T-day! Hugs, Eileen
Just had a lovely catch up Chris, wonderful photos from your visit to Lincoln and the last two journal pages are fabulous, love the extra details on the little tags in the last on.

Your reason for missing last week has provided a lovely post for us! Thourghly enjoyed your photos and descriptions! Thank your sharing with us! And nice to meet you, as last week was my first time! I appreciate your visit and comments on my Blog already!
ReplyDeleteHi Chris, so enjoyed your trip. We've lived in Lincoln now since 1988 and although we're now retired I can't think of living anywhere else, just love it. Everyone thinks Lincolnshire is flat until they try to get up Steep Hill Lol! There have been lots of changes while we've been here and one that you can't miss is the University which I'm sure you will have noticed! Thanks for sharing the lovely photos with us, Angela xXx
