We had a trip out on Friday - not quite what we planned…first we headed to Hutton in the Forest - we visited there some time ago and loved it! Hmm! When we got there we found that although the gardens were open - paying was by using the honesty box, the house and tea rooms were closed.
Not to worry - The Rheged Centre wasn't far away and I had a map! There was a little matter of the smaller villages not being on the map and the signposts were in need of a clean or repair - When we started going back on ourselves we decided that Penrith might be a better bet!
We had intended going into the town centre for lunch but when we saw Booths decided that as we have often stopped for coffee there we would try for a lunch!!!! We should have taken a look around at the number of people there before ordering!!!
The couple beside us had arrived just before us - after sitting for around 20 minutes someone came to tell them that what the man had ordered was now not available!
We struck up a conversation and swapped names of places to visit with Grandchildren and eventually our meals arrived at the same time.
We headed into Penrith and I called to Penrith Crafts, bought a couple of things and had a wander around the town before heading back to the caravan!
Aha! but we didn't! Hubby pulled into Tebay Services and we headed to the cafe!
I am joining Bluebeard and Elizabeth for T Stands For Tuesday…
The cakes were being replenished!
On the first island there were baskets of bread and a bowl of soup
An Americano for me and a Mocha for hubby - we shared the raspberry and pistachio tart.
There were only a few folk in and none in the section where we were!
The views from the windows on the Southbound side are wonderful!(just a slight reflection problem!)
We watched as Martins(or Swallows) flew across the pond and up into the eaves to nests.
You may just catch sight of one here. After coffee we had a look around the shop area before going to the farm shop.
The teas and coffee area also had Hot Chocolate powders.
We bought some veg and a courgette and lime cake which was delicious!
It really was a good ending to the day!
Thanks for looking, Chris
Chris, I don't think I've mentioned how calming your blog layout is. I love the pear stamp and the vellum-look pattern (anyway, I think it's a digital pattern) of the pear stamp. I can almost feel my heart rate and breathing slow every time I land here - aaah.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, you made the most of what could have been a disappointing day.
Happy T-Day! Hugs, Eileen
You seem to have the most fun and rewarding adventures no matter what you encounter Chris-and good for you!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a lovely end to your trip. Happy T day!
Seriously? I wish all motorway services were like that... how fantastic! At least your long and winding road trip led somewhere lovely in the end.

as your page was loading-I just loved the pear allot-I see it is still faintly in the background-love it.
ReplyDeletesounds like an interesting adventure exploring shops and more. I love watching birds too so that was neat, and the photos with the landscapes looked like paintings-very pretty.
Happy T Day Kathy
You just never know how it will go sometimes, but sounds like you handled it better than I would. The scenery though is gorgeous. You live in such a beautiful area and whenever you post about one of your little trips I am amazed. happy T day. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't seem to matter where you and your husband go, you manage to turn flops into flopportunities. It's that fabulous attitude that sets your posts apart. I can tell you two have a real love of life.
ReplyDeleteI was drawn to the sign in the restaurant. I had never heard of Tebay Services, but I take it the M6 is a major highway similar to one of our interstate roads. I went to their site and saw the beautiful country around Tebay Gorge. I really enjoyed reading about this and the wonderful way things turned out in the end of what could have been a bad day. That tart looks good enough to eat, too.
Thanks for sharing your adventures, the beauty of the countryside, and your coffee and tart with us for T this Tuesday.
The place you ended up at looks really good, love the way they have everything set out, and the views are great, too. The farm shop looks very tempting! Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeletesounds like a great day after all!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had an up and down sort of day, but I think it turned out well for you and the cake at the end of your trip looked yummy. Its years since I've been in Tebay services, the farm shop looks quite a lot bigger and has some good looking produce.
ReplyDeleteHappy T day Chris.
Yvonne xx

ReplyDeleteHappy T-Day Chris - now I am longing for a raspberry and pistachio tart.
Glad your day turned out so well in the end 😁. The views of the countryside and farm shop look wonderful, I bet the fresh veggies and lime cake were yummy! Wishing you a Happy T Day! J 😊
ReplyDeleteWe always stop at Tebay, I love it there but I have never seen it as quiet as your visit, it must have been wonderful!! Hugs, Anne xx
ReplyDeleteChris i'm so sorry for another flyby comment... One of these days life will truly slow down and i can make a proper T party visit... I loved breezing through all your lovely photos though...just beautiful! Happy T day!! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteCrowded eating places are usually crowded for a reason, but I can't help but feel sorry for the poor man who didn't get his first choice.
ReplyDeleteThe tart looks delicious! and that view!
Happy T Tuesday :)
Ha, you always seem to land on your feet even when making a mistake. Good for you! The motorway service looks fab. I have never been to that one, but there is a similar one near Gloucester. I loved the selection of teas and coffees at the farm shop.
ReplyDeleteSwallows, swifts or housemartins, I can't tell the difference. We get loads here and I love watching them fly upand down and seemingly playing with each other on the thermals of warm air.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca
Hi Chris,
ReplyDeleteI don't see a contact form on your blog so am using a comment to coordinate about the T-party 4th anniversary ATC round robin we both signed up for. Mine is the last asterisk on the list. So I think that means I send an ATC to the 1st one, which is you ;-)
If that's correct, can you send me your mailing address using this secure contact form?
Hugs, Eileen
