Spots, Splashes and Dots at TIOT and T stands for ….the tomb of Napoleon

It's time for a new challenge at Try It On Tuesday and this time we hope to see your Spots……..Oh!...or Splashes and Dots (or all three!) The Design team have come up with some wonderful inspiration so please do pop over and have a look at their Spots, Splashes and Dots!

I have quite few birthdays to make cards for and I am trying to get ahead of myself!
I must admit this is one of my easiest cards to make and I have made one or two using this method
I used Distress markers to make mine but any water soluble markers will do.

Scribble colours randomly over an acrylic block for this card - just using shades of green
Next spritz the inks and then use the block as a stamp. If you don't get the result you hoped for have quick mop over the card and turn the block around and 'stamp' again.

Once dry I stamped my tree image- this one didn't stamp particularly well (I used Water colour paper) so I had to fill in some areas with a black Pitt pen
All that was left to do then was mount it and stamp a sentiment.

This is the card I made for my son for his birthday on Sunday

As you can see I chose rainbow colours for the background and the spattery dots.

I still have a few Paris photos to show you.
After meeting up with Patty and Jim we met up with my Sister in law and Brother in law for lunch.
It was the worst meal we had eaten in Paris this visit and no photos - on reflection - this could have been the meal that made me poorly - not inedible - just not as delicious as the others we had!!

Afterwards we walked to Les Invalides where Napoleon's tomb is resting

The inside is beautiful although I became confused about which was THE Napoleons tomb.
There are also tombs of some of the great soldiers of France.

This is Napoleon Bonaparte's tomb
This is the tomb of his brother Joseph Napoleon
Oh! and I am here to share my drink with Bluebeard and Elizabeth for T stands for Tuesday too.

We ate this meal one evening - it was delicious - as you can see my drink is water. We had a FREE coffee at the hotel(I don't know why I didn't take a photo of the coffee table with complimentary tea, coffee and sometimes pastries!)

Elizabeth is always happy to see drink related posts on Tuesdays - although they may leave you feeling hungry!

Just a little reminder, you have two weeks to enter the TIOT challenge so I do hope you will join in.

Thanks for looking, Chris

  4. Wow, great post Chris! I love your splotchy splattery pieces. I really must try that technique! Beautiful photos from Paris, what a gorgeous place to visit! Sad about that food making you ill though. I made the mistake of having a pop with ice outside the resort when I was in the tropics, I was sick for the entire vacation! DOH! hugs :)

  7. That looks like it is a great background technique Chris. I may have to give it a try. Had to laugh at YOU not stamping perfectly. So, even the pros don't always stamp perfectly, huh? And here I thought it was only ME!

I really enjoyed the photos of Napoleon's tomb. That dome was simply stunning, and I'm always impressed when I see all that gilding and art that goes in each dome. It is wonderful.

Yes, I got hungry looking at your meal. It looks delicious. And I often kick myself for not getting certain photos, especially after I get home and learn the ones I thought I took were not on my camera.

Thanks for sharing this awesome background technique, your lovely spatter card, your beautiful Paris photos, and your awesome meal and water with us for T this Tuesday.

  11. I always remember it as brown marble and being told that to look at it we had to bow down our heads to enable us to look upon it. Were you told this?
Love the "tree" cards... .so effective.
BTW... our gardener mowed the lawn but nothing else has yet been touched or tidied!
Off to Germany tomorrow to see the family.

  12. Your cards are gorgeous! Love the trees and the splashy background. Artful splatters and drips are sometimes trickier to make than it sounds and I love the simplicity of this. Adore the photos of the tomb and the artwork there...lovely. Happy T day!

  21. Gosh Chris love those cards. Thank you for showing us how to make them. I may have to give that a go. Now where did you get that wonderful tree stamp?? :) Loved seeing your pictures of Paris... Hubby and i had a whirlwind trip there about 25 years ago... Just enough time to run around the Lourve and climb the Eiffel Tower , pop into Notre Dame and light a candle and grab a croissant .... lol So good to see you this T day! Hugs! deb
