To fly or not to fly….!

One of my greatest delights on woodland walks is to look for small birds - even when we go to Leighton Moss which is set up with hides mainly for water bird watchers I love to walk through the woods watching for Nuthatches, Tits and Finches, we are sometimes lucky and see other little birds too!
This will probably be a scheduled post and I may be off to the woods this weekend!
My little bird is wondering whether to stay where he is or fly off to the woods on the hill, but it's getting dark and there's a sparrow hawk about so he may stay in the hedgerow for tonight!

This started off as a mop up page but I added some more ink and some stamping.

This is my latest entry for AJJ, where the topic (chosen by me!!!) is 'If you go down to the Woods'
I hope you will be tempted to join in, there have already been some wonderful entries!

Thanks for looking, Chris

  9. I really enjoyed this page, and loved that you never let your paint go to waste. This is a perfect example it seems. Of course, I love the forest in the background, and the little bird you are keeping safe in the hedgerow from the sparrow hawk. It's a great piece for YOUR theme this month, dear.

  14. I could have sent this privately, but wanted to tell you via your blog about rusting fabric.

I KNOW many people say to mix water and vinegar together, but I use the vinegar straight from the bottle, and never mix it. I also don't wet my fabric before I wrap it around something rusty. Since your keys weren't rusty, they will be extra hard to rust. Keys have a finish on them that must be sanded off before you can use them. If Tony has some nails and screws these would probably work better. Even paper clips will work, as will safety and straight pins. Be sure the fabric is covered and airtight, then place in a sunny place, OR place somewhere you can leave the container for a few weeks. They should not be left outside in the cold and rain or snow. It defeats the purpose. Remember, if you have green tea bags, you can add one to the fabric OR somewhere in the bag. It will activate the rusting process.

I am sorry this didn't work well for you, but keys are the most difficult thing to rust. They work great for collographic plates, but not for rusting fabric or paper. Remember, once the fabric has been rusted, wash in baking soda water. If rusting paper, allow to dry, then spray with a fixative or cheap hair spray.
