WOYWW 207 (film review update)

Really am going to be quick today! We are off to see the Gatsby film - it's not had good reviews but I've been looking forward to it since I saw the trailer!
If you don't know by now about WOYWW I recommend a visit to Julia's blog The Stamping Ground, I guarantee you will smile!
So here's whats on mine - be warned it's a bit of a dumping ground!
As you may know - we've been away so I hadn't had much chance to play with my goodies from Happy Stampers! I was due to meet up with friends last night but it was cancelled-found out after I'd driven along the motorway so….drove back and straight to my desk, cleared a space and started to make some tags - wonderful way to de-stress! Just using my new Lavinia Nigella seed pod and testing to see if Fresco and distress paints mix - yes, of course they do!!
So, that's it! Hope to get back later to visit(and give a film review if you like!!)

Update
Well, I really enjoyed the film, mind you I did expect to, I love Baz Luhrman's style and Moulin Rouge is one of my favourite films! It certainly was nothing like the Robert Redford version(or the book which I read years ago and now want to re-read)I did find Toby McGuire a little bit hard to accept as Nick but he grew on me by the middle of the film. I feel that the criticism of Carey Mulligan that I read in one review was harsh. It was altogether a typical spectacular BL production and I would recommend it! The costumes were great too!
ps hubby also enjoyed it!

  1. Oh, I didn't know what reviews GG had had. I was hoping to see it, as I like Carey Mulligan and I've had to teach that novel to students for many years. I do hope you enjoy the movie. How nice to discover that distress paints and Frescos mix. Happy WOYWW xxx#58

  2. I'm doing a quick blog dash before I get started this morning cos we have another estate agent coming today to take pics of our house so it needs a final hoover and tidy through :-)
Hope you enjoy the film and come back and tell us all about it. :-)

  9. I did like the trailer of the Gatsby film too, hope you enjoyed it. Shame about your friends but at least you got to mix up the paints! I wasn't sure they would mix but so glad they do. I spent way too much at Happy Stampers.....sigh..... Happy WOYWW, Anne x #54

  11. Very curious to know what you make of Gatsby - I'm also keen after seeing the trailer (way better casting than the older version, from what I could see, and fabulous mise-en-scene as you'd expect from Baz Luhrmann), and was disappointed to read some of the reviews... Hope to get to see it soon.

Lovely looking tags there, and the flower stem image is beautiful (guess that's the Nigella?).

  16. I love the colour of the tags, great work! I am not much of a movie-lover myself and always wait until the films come on tv... (I only went to the theater in the past years for 'Lord of the Ring' and 'Harry Potter') I guess I will watch the big Gatsby on tv three years from now or some time like that ;) but I'm glad you liked it. Happy ~ belated ~ woyww and a hug from Holland. Marit #109

  19. Happy WOYWW!

I am glad you told us that Distress and Fresco paints mix, I only have a few Fresco, now I said that I am not sure I have Distress paints, but I have the inks, and a few other odd paints!

    Nice tags though.

  21. Glad you enjoyed the film... I hadn't seen any direct criticism of Carey Mulligan, but I think she's already ten times the actor Mia Farrow ever was, so I can't imagine I'm going to agree with it! Think Nick is the hardest part since he's so hard to pin down as the narrative voice. Heartily recommend a re-read of the book... I did it recently and it's just as brilliant as I'd remembered, and what a nasty taste it leaves in the mouth!!

  22. That is one good looking table, as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't mind sitting down and playing them for a while.

    Glad you enjoyed the film.

    Happy belated WOYWW,

  23. It would be hard for me to go see it again, because of Robert Redford, I don't think I want anyone to replace him ♥ but I wouldn't mind reading the book over! OK, I am asking my WOYWW folks to rally behind me and I truly need your support. I am in a contest and the voting ends today so it's now or never. PLEASE go vote for me, yes, I am begging, lol http://www.genuinelyjanestudios.com/genuinelyblog/gjs-design-a-book-contest-top-three-finalists-announced/
